Rains cause disruptions from north to south of the country
After a week of flooding in Venice, snowfall in the Alps and rain across the country, the bad weather continues to cause damage and disruption from north to south of Italy.
The Ídice River, in the province of Bologna, overflowed its banks this Tuesday (19) and forced the evacuation of roads and rural areas located on its banks. The watercourse had already exceeded its limits on Sunday (17), in the city of Budrio.
The rains that have fallen in Emilia-Romagna since Monday night (18) have already generated at least 450 interventions by the Fire Department, especially in flooded areas.
In the Autonomous Province of Bolzano-Alto Adige, where several communities were isolated last week due to snow, the alert level was raised to two (on a scale that goes up to four). Around 40 roads are still blocked, as is the Pusteria Valley railway line, where a train derailed last Monday.
On the island of Sardinia, heavy rains knocked down the roof of a residence, but the owner, who was sleeping, was not affected. In Venice, which suffered four major floods in less than a week, it continues to rain, but the tide has given the city a respite.
The water level did not exceed one meter for the second day in a row, avoiding new alarms in the capital of Veneto. Between the 12th and 17th, Venice recorded tides of 187, 144, 154 and 150 centimeters, values enough to flood more than 70% of its historic center.
