The soap opera "Our land" returned to the airwaves on TV Globo. The work is being shown in the “Special Edition” slot, shown at 14:45 pm, between Jornal Hoje and Sessão da Tardand replacing "História de Amor." The soap opera was originally broadcast in 1999 and marked an era by portraying the arrival of Italian immigrants to Brazil in the late XNUMXth century.
Written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa, the plot was starred by Ana Paula Arósio e Thiago lacerda, who played young Giuliana and Matteo. They meet on the ship's journey to Brazil and live a story marked by separations, reunions, and challenges amid the reality of immigrants who arrived in the country seeking work on coffee plantations.
Beyond the romance, the telenovela was recognized for its sensitive portrayal of the saga of Italian families, reinforcing the importance of the Italian-Brazilian community in the country's formation. At the time, "Terra Nostra" was celebrated as a tribute to ancestors who left Italy in search of a new life.
The reopening comes at a sensitive time for descendants of Italians outside Italy. Recently, statements from the government of Giorgia Meloni have called into question the role of the Italian diaspora. According to Antonio Tajani, its deputy prime minister, there are "threats to Italianness" beyond national borders, even referring to descendants as potential threats to the country's identity.
And more than that, the Italian government began to restrict access to Italian citizenship, adopting stricter rules and requirements considered aggressive by organizations linked to the Italian community abroad.
The return of "Terra Nostra," therefore, takes on a symbolic tone. The soap opera, which 25 years ago proudly celebrated the ties between Brazil and Italy, returns as a reminder of the contributions of immigrants and the cultural wealth they left behind.
