Trade relations between Brazil and Italy are expected to gain new momentum with the progress of the Mercosur-European Union agreement. This is the projection made by the president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo (Italcam), Graziano Messana.
During the presentation of a business guide aimed at Italian companies interested in Brazil, Messana told the Ansa news agency that synergies between the two countries are “destined to increase.”
According to him, the main reason for this growth will be the significant reduction in customs tariffs provided for in the agreement. “We are talking about an increase, over the next 10 years, of around 40% in Italian exports to Brazil”, he said, citing data from the Business Guide in Brazil, published by the Italian Embassy in Brasília.
Messana also highlighted Brazil's economic momentum as an attractive factor for European companies. "The country is renewing its industrial base and has been growing at a rate of approximately 3% per year," he stated.
For the director, Italian industry can benefit from this renewal by supplying machinery and technology. He highlighted the renewable energy, industrial production, and technology sectors as promising areas for exchange.
Another point Messana emphasized was Brazil's energy matrix, considered an international benchmark. "Brazil has a 74% clean energy matrix and, in this phase of energy transition, can serve as an example for Italy. The synergies between the two countries are therefore quite obvious and not just unilateral," he concluded.
