Minister of the Interior speaks out in favor of the operation that investigates suspicious citizenship practices
Hours after the police of Verbania and Novara fired, this Tuesday morning (26), an operation As Italy's Minister of the Interior and Deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, investigates suspicious practices related to Italian citizenship, he publicly praised the work of the police.
“The trick is over for the smart guys with fake documents,” said Salvini. He also took the opportunity to needle the opposition. “Instead of worrying about the jus solis and citizenship as a gift, needs respect and control. Thank you once again to the police and investigators”, wrote the minister.
He was referring to the wish of teenager Ramy Shehata, “hero” of the hijacking of a school bus last Wednesday (20), which prevented a massacre of unprecedented proportions in the country, to offer Italian citizenship to his colleagues.
Last week, Salvini said that the current “citizenship law is great like that".
The Supreme Court reaffirmed: citizenship is born with the person.

Italian priest accused of forging certificate
As part of this Tuesday's operation, a priest from diocese of Padua, in northern Italy, was arrested accused of forging a baptismal certificate.
According to Italian police, in exchange for money, he created certificates to be used in Italian citizenship applications.
The priest was being monitored through telephone conversations with Brazilians, who were also arrested.
Operation “Super Santos” arrested 7 Brazilians and around 800 citizenship cases are under investigation.
Investigation lasts one year
Investigations by police officers from the Mobile Team, which investigates suspicions of false Italian citizenship, began a year ago.
Coordinated by the Public Ministry, the action arose based on a complaint from the mayor of Macugnaga, in Piedmont, who was suspicious of the high number of citizenship processes requested by Brazilians.
From then on, 34 communes were monitored by the police.
