During the crisis, a 30-year-old young man launches the challenge of creating a new vineyard on the land of Domodossola

A bet for the future: This is what Edoardo Patrone, a 30-year-old, represents for Italy. He has just planted a new vineyard on more than 8 square meters of land in Domodossola, in the mountainous Piedmont region of northern Italy.

The planting of almost 4 thousand seedlings ended a few days ago. The region has a long tradition of growing wine grapes.

At the end of the 40th century, there were around XNUMX hectares of vineyards, but in recent decades, the art of making good wines has been abandoned.

Then the slow return. Patrone can also count on other lands – totaling 35 thousand square meters – located between Trontano, Montecrestese, Beura and Domodossola

But this is still an experiment. In fact, this is the first time he has started a new vineyard from scratch. “I told the seedling grower that what he was selling me, especially at this particular moment, is hope,” says Patrone.

The seedlings will begin producing in three years. The first wine can be tasted in four. “The process is long, but I never thought about stopping, not even at this moment that puts everything in doubt, says Patrone, in an interview with the newspaper La Stampa.

The young dreamer acquired the wine production technique a decade ago. “It was in 2017 that I started working to obtain the rights to graft the new vineyard. It’s not a hasty decision, it takes time,” he says.

It took four days of work to plant all the Nebbiolo seedlings – a typical grape from the Piedmont region – that will give rise to Prünent wine, a typical wine from Val d'Ossola.

“It's work, but the idea of creating a new vineyard is also a symbol of the desire to look ahead and protect our territory”, concludes Patrone, who has a degree in viticulture and oenology.
