67 thousand wedding ceremonies canceled in Italy. Entity that represents the sector estimates that losses could reach 26 billion euros.

A survey by the National Association of Luxury Wedding Events (Assoeventi), reveals that around 17 thousand weddings were canceled between March and April this year. The entity estimates that another 50 thousand will be canceled between May and June.

The shortfall will be 26 billion euros – around 156 billion reais. Italy is one of the main destinations in the world for weddings, and the sector is already calculating billion-dollar losses due to postponements and cancellations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Actress and singer Jennifer Lopez was scheduled to get married in Italy for the summer of this year. According to “Us Weekly”, a source close to the couple says that she and her fiance, Alex Rodriguez, still plan to get married as soon as “things return to normal in Italy”.

In 2019, Italy recorded 220 thousand weddings with a minimum cost of 55 thousand euros per event. The sector employed more than one million workers, employed in around 83 thousand companies linked to the events.
