The number of Brazilian tourists in Italy is growing, says Enit
The number of Brazilians visiting Italy grows every year. In 2018, there were 2,5 million tourists, 9,6% more than in 2017.
Among the most visited regions are Lazio (where the city of Rome is located), with over 552 visitors; Tuscany, with over 441 visitors; Veneto, with over 405 visitors; Lombardy, with over 329 visitors; and Campania, with over 129 visitors. In total, these regions represent 80,2% of the total number of tourists.
The number of visitors from the main regions and other local tourism data were presented to the trade this Thursday afternoon (21), during a celebration ceremony held by the Italian National Tourism Agency (Enit), in the capital of São Paulo. took place at Mondo Gastronomico, and was attended by trade leaders and guests from the press.
Fernanda Longobardo, director of Enit, thanked the trade for the partnership and commented on the results of the actions carried out by the agency, such as the promotion of the country in the São Paulo metro and at the Taste of São Paulo 2019, which has been creating good results, such as growth of Brazilians in Italy year after year. “We want to thank you who are our partners and who help us develop this wonderful work. I want to say from now on that our office is open to welcome you”, commented Longobardo.
Seasonality
In 2018, the seasonality of tourist flows throughout Italy led to a concentration of overnight stays in the months of May, July and September. However, the months of November and December stood out, with growth of 12,5% and 20,7%, respectively.
Tourist Expenses
Brazilian visitors to Italy spent around 3,4 billion reais in 2018, an increase of 3,4% compared to the previous year. Largest in terms of number of visitors, the Lazio region also stands out economically, with 1,6 billion reais, equivalent to 46,3% of the total spent by Brazilians. Of the amount, around 75% was spent on hotels.
Furthermore, cultural holidays represent 65,7% of travelers' total expenditure in 2018. Other interests cited as reasons for travel are the search for resorts, wine and gastronomy, mountains, sports, lakes and agritourism.
